This week has been a remarkable milestone in our ongoing efforts to scale Agro-ecology practices across Malawi through capacity building and practical training.
On June 20th, we proudly celebrated the graduation of 40 farmers from Dowa and Ntchisi districts. These farmers successfully completed a hands-on training program in Agro-ecology and composting toilet systems. What makes this graduation particularly impactful is that these farmers are now equipped and ready to train others in their communities, creating a sustainable ripple effect. This achievement marks the success of an initiative we were honored to initiate in these districts, aimed at empowering local communities to become self-reliant through ecological farming techniques.

Continuing the week’s momentum, on June 24th, we welcomed farmers and field staff from Balaka, representing Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD). Their visit was focused on learning practical applications of Agro-ecology. Through field demonstrations and shared experiences, the participants gained valuable insight into real-life implementation of regenerative farming methods, soil restoration, and climate-smart agricultural practices.
The week concluded strongly on June 26th, as we hosted another one-day practical Agro-ecology training session, this time for farmers and staff from Nsanje district, also working with CARD. The session was filled with interactive demonstrations that covered compost making, water retention strategies, permaculture design, and local resource mobilization. Participants expressed enthusiasm about taking these lessons back to their communities and applying them immediately.
We are grateful for the growing interest and partnerships emerging from different districts and organizations. These developments signal a strong and shared commitment toward building resilient farming systems and communities through Agro-ecology. As more farmers become trainers themselves, the future of sustainable agriculture in Malawi looks increasingly promising.
