This week, our team is on the ground in Bonongwe Village, located in the heart of Balaka District, where an exciting transformation is underway. What was once seen as unproductive land is now the focus of a groundbreaking initiative to map and design a thriving food forest  a project that aims to restore biodiversity, improve food security, and empower the local community.

Using principles of permaculture and regenerative design, we’re working closely with community members to assess the landscape, understand its challenges, and unlock its potential. The food forest model not only aims to produce a variety of fruits, vegetables, and medicinal plants, but also to promote soil health, conserve water, and provide sustainable livelihoods.

This initiative is part of a larger movement to revive degraded landscapes across Malawi and turn them into ecological and nutritional powerhouses. As we move through the design phase, community input remains at the center  ensuring that the forest reflects local needs, traditions, and aspirations.

We invite you to be on the lookout as this inspiring journey unfolds. What starts as a dry patch of land today will soon become a living, breathing forest of abundance  a testament to the power of community-driven environmental action.

Stay tuned for updates and stories from the field.
